“ ‘Making the cutest film ever’ has been our theme in terms of the production of this film… The characters are cute, but they had something nicer inside of their hearts”
– Yona Yona Penguin director Rintaro |
Helmed by well-known animation director Rintaro of Metropolis fame, Yona Yona Penguin is a Japanese animation movie about the adventures of three children in a fantasy world. The movie has a production investment of 1.5 billion yen and combines computer generated imageries employed by PIXAR with the 2D animation techniques of traditional Japanese anime. The result is a visual spectacle with brand new never- before-seen imageries in Japanese animation.
However, the heart of this inspiring movie really lies with the story. It follows Coco, a girl with a “penguin coat”, Chaley the Hobgoblin and Zammie the fallen angel as they find friendship and courage for the first time in their lives. It tells of the ingenuousness of children and teaches the important lessons of camaraderie and strength in the face of adversities. |

About the Movie
Every night, little Coco puts on her “penguin coat” and sneaks into town, believing that as a penguin, one day she will be able to fly. The “penguin coat” was a present from her late father.
One night, because of her outfit, Coco was mistakenly invited to the Underground World by Chaley, a Hobgoblin. Chaley thought that Coco was the legendary “Brave Cannot Fly Bird”, said to be able to save his village from Bucca-Boo, the Emperor of the Dark.
Aided by Zammie, an apprentice Angel who fell from Heaven, Bucca-Boo plans to dominate the Hobgoblins. Despite what everyone says, Coco believes that Zammie is not as evil as he seems. To save Chaley’s village and help Zammie return to Heaven, Coco has to decide whether she wants to fight Bucca-Boo, not as the legendary saviour, but as their friend. |

Watch the live webcams of our Hornbills nesting in action!
150 years ago, the Oriental Pied Hornbills were common natives of Singapore. Unfortunately, due to rapid urbanization, the population of these Hornbills declined drastically.
Since 2004, we have been successfully involved in the breeding, conservation and in-house webcam observation of the Oriental Pied Hornbills. This year, we have taken another significant step to equip 24/7 live webcams to observe the nesting behaviours of 4 different Hornbill species:
- Wrinkled Hornbill
- Black Hornbill
- Oriental Pied Hornbill
- Tarictic Hornbill

Beware, the Hollywood Dinos come alive at Jurong Bird Park this December 2009!
Get ready for a heart-stomping experience this December where dinosaurs roam and hunt freely right here in Jurong Bird Park.
Hollywood Dinos The Live Experience will run from 12 December 2009 to 21 February 2010. More than just a visual spectacle, Hollywood Dinos is entertaining, educational and highly recommended for both the young and the old. Using state-of-the art technology in animatronics and engineering, the life-size dinosaurs’ exhibits are able to move, growl, blink their eyes and even walk and dance. |
The latest hi-tech “walking dinosaurs” from Hollywood Dinos The Live Experience are the first in Asia. Most of the dinosaur species are new exhibits, never before been displayed in Singapore. In addition, this exhibition is styled after Hollywood movie sets with real life actors, a first also for any dinosaur exhibition held in Singapore. |
Amidst heart-pounding music scores, lighting and special effects, visitors are led into the treacherous movie sets by their guides. Visitors will be instantly transported into the long lost world of dinosaurs and immerse themselves in the thrill of interacting with the dinosaurs – both docile and dangerous. |
The Hollywood Dinos brand is endorsed by local celebrity, Edmund Chen, who will undertake the adventurous role of paleontologist Rex Lee. Having made his acting debut 20 years ago, Chen has consistently won Mediacorp’s Most Popular Artiste Award for many years running and was voted “Best Male artiste” by Singapore viewers. He also recently scored a major role in the Hollywood movie Street Fighter as a martial artiste. |
An event not to be missed, tickets for Hollywood Dinos The Live Experience are available at Cheers, Fairprice Xpress and Mustafa. Tickets are also available from Jurong Bird Park ticketing counters from 12 December 2009 onwards.
