Conservation Programmes New

Numerous species of birds are facing the danger of extinction, mainly due to man’s actions. Their habitats are destroyed, food sources poisoned by pollution, some even killed in the name of sports. Take this opportunity to meet some of the endangered birds found at the Jurong BirdPark and learn about the problems they face and how you can help them!

  1. Skeletons and Me – ½hr Enrichment Talk
    When birds die, what happens to their bodies? Where can we find their skeletons? Come onto a journey beyond treetops and birdseeds; learn how skeletons and dead embryos can teach us more about the birds than when they were alive. See real specimens of bird skeletons and chicks that didn’t manage to hatch!

    Age Group: Primary School
    Group Size: Min 50pax (max 200pax)

  2. Endangered Parrots - 1/2 hr Thematic Class
    Parrots make great pets, however some parrots are unsuitable to be pets. Which parrots are noisy, dirty or even illegal to be pets? Come learn about the numerous parrots that make ‘bad’ pets and meet some parrots that are facing dangers in the wild and may become extinct.

    Age Group: Pre-school/ Kindergarten
    Group Size: Min 25pax (max 40pax)
    Time:

    10am, 11am, 2pm, 3pm

    Charges: S$4 per pax (excludes admission fees)


  3. Conservationist Explorer ½ day Bird Camp (3 hours)
    Be a conservationist for a day! Start the day learning how we help abandoned eggs and chicks in the nursey, then meet the endangered toucans from South America and learn about their interesting breeding habits and colorful beaks. The Lories from Australia needs your help in feeding them and also to spread the word to stop deforestation. Lastly, hop on the panorail and take in the sights of the whole park, but don’t miss out the magnificent Birds of Prey show!

    Group Size: Min 25pax (max 40pax)

    9am – 12noon

    Charges: S$21 per pax (excludes admission fees)


  4. Pouchy Pelicans – 1hr Special Tour
    How many species of pelicans are there? How much weight can their pouch hold? We dive into some issues surrounding pelicans, providing an in-depth look at the threats faced by these birds and what the BirdPark has done to help in their conservation program. Get a chance to feed these birds too!

  5. Toucans & Hornbills – 1hr Special Tour
    These 2 birds are often associated to be in the same family, but are in fact very different. Learn about their fascinating breeding habits and why their beaks are so big and colorful, as well as the threats these birds face in the wild. Come up close and get to feel how in interesting the structure and texture of their beaks are.
